Adult Faith Formation

“Maturity of faith is the intent of all catechesis from the earliest years.  Thus, all catechesis is geared to a lifelong deepening of faith in Christ.  How necessary, then, that the catechetical ministry with adults set an example of the highest quality and vitality.

”For such reasons as these, the Church wisely and repeatedly insists that adult faith formation is ‘essential to who we are and what we do as Church’ and must be ‘situated not at the periphery of the Church’s educational mission but at its center.’

“While most Catholic parishes place a high priority on the faith formation of children and youth, far fewer treat adult faith formation as a priority. . . . But to teach as Jesus did means calling and equipping all Christians of every age and stage of life to fulfill their baptismal call to holiness in family, Church, and society—their mission to evangelize and transform the world into a more caring and just society.  Ongoing faith formation is essential to accomplish this mission.”     (Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us: A Pastoral Plan for Adult Faith Formation in the United States, Statement of the U.S. Catholic Bishops, article # 41-44.

St. Thomas Aquinas Parish and St. John Student Center offer many adult faith formation opportunities for growing and maturing in our Catholic faith.  Opportunities available for adults range in diversity from faith formation to prayer and fellowship, and include among other offerings: Scripture studies, faith-sharing groups, speakers on a variety of theological topics, a Faculty/Community book discussion group, men’s prayer group, parish mission, our Lenten “Soup & Substance” program, Eucharist Adoration, Taize prayer, as well as Theology on Tap and Catholicism 101 for MSU students.

Watch this page for regular updates on future faith formation events!
