What is a catechist?
A catechist is...- A person who faithfully believes in Jesus and is a witness to His message....
- A person who enjoys the company of children and youth....
- A practicing Catholic willing to commit to spending a couple of hours a week sharing the Faith they have received...
- A person who is spiritually alive and willing to share enthusiastically his/her faith....
- A person who wants to learn more about the Bible and Christ's teaching......
- A parent, grandparent, single person, college student or high school student...
A catechist is not necessarily....- A person who has studied theology and Scripture...
- An experienced teacher....
- A "perfect" person....
If you decide to become a catechist, you have answered God’s call, the call of your baptism. You will be making a decision that will enrich your life and the life of the children you teach.You will be successful! We will provide pre-planned lessons and all of the materials you need, ready-to-go. We meet with each catechist/team for an “orientation” session so that you will be familiar with the program. We want you to be comfortable.
